Lucknow, July 06: Introduction of sex education in the syllabus of high school and intermediate classes by the Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education today rocked the proceedings of the Assembly with opposition members demanding deletion of objectionable contents from the text books.
Raising the matter during zero hour through an adjournment notice, Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Munna Singh Chauhan said that the text books issued by the UP Board contained objectionable content related to sex which children should not be taught in the classrooms.
The material provided to trainers also had sex related contents with illustrations due to which teachers and guardians were up in arms and even principal’s association had raised its objection regarding the material.
BJP member Sheema Rizvi said that in the name of AIDS awareness the contents of the text books were an attack on Indian culture and state government should immediately withdraw it.
Replying to the notice, leader of the house Swami Prasad Maurya said that taking note of the issue raised by the opposition members he was directing the director secondary education to review contents of the text books and delete the entire chapter, if necessary.
Sukhram Singh Yadav said that he would convene an all party meeting to discuss the sensitive issue related to the education of the children.
